Does SimplePDF store PHI?
By default, PDFs are edited in the browser. Where finalized files land depends on your configuration. Without BYOS, finalized files may be stored by SimplePDF. With BYOS enabled, finalized documents are sent to your own S3, Azure Blob Storage, or SharePoint. Your team should validate the configuration, metadata, logs, and support access.
Are documents uploaded to a server?
Documents are processed in the browser by default. When saving or submitting, files are stored either in SimplePDF storage or, with Bring Your Own Storage enabled, sent directly to your own S3, Azure Blob Storage, or SharePoint via presigned URLs.
Can SimplePDF be embedded into healthcare software?
Yes. You can embed a PDF editor into patient portals, EHR systems, and internal healthcare tools. Documents are processed in-browser. With Bring Your Own Storage, completed PDFs go directly to your own storage while webhooks notify your backend.

What still transits through SimplePDF when BYOS is enabled?
In a BYOS flow, the finalized document is sent to the storage you configure. SimplePDF still processes what is needed to run the service: configuration, authentication, submission metadata, webhook events, technical logs, and support data. The exact list should be reviewed in your target architecture.
Can I start without an architecture review?
Yes. Technical teams can start on Pro and configure BYOS from the dashboard. For healthcare environments, we recommend an architecture review before production to validate storage, access, logs, webhooks, and responsibilities.
